Iribov Ghana, located in Sogakope in the Volta Region is a production facility under the Iribov Group headquartered in The Netherlands. Aside from Ghana, the company has another production site in Macedonia.

The company is involved in numerous activities that aim to improve Agriculture for a better and greater yield. To them, Agriculture should go way beyond our backyard gardens, farming on small acres of land or farming just to feed ourselves. That is to say, Agriculture is a prospective field that one can explore to do so much more. Iribov Ghana manufactures for a sales programme for the mother company, Iribov SBW in Europe and in the United States. Nevertheless, they project a vision that is centred on developing the West African market by improving farming practices for better yields, better and more food and to improve the livelihood of local communities.

Iribov Ghana is widely known for propagating plants using a remarkable technology called Tissue Culture. The technology produces improved planting material for farming. Tissue Culture is a biological research in which fragments of tissues, and in the case of Iribov Ghana, from plants are transferred to a controlled environment to survive and function. These environments are mostly sterile to propagate plants that can withstand diseases, ensure uniform growing, all year-round produce, genetic enhancement and preservation. It is the new technology that could be beneficial to smallholder and commercial farmers.

The company provides employment for over 100 locals consisting of 80% women. Although the technique used to propagate plants is 90% for exports to Europe and East Africa in the form of ornamental plants and soft fruit berries, the visit of the Minister for Food and Agriculture’s recent working tour to the facility sparks discussions of possible areas of collaboration to improve the Agriculture sector in the country.
